BY THE NUMBERS BLOG My nerdy friend David who is degreed in economics as well as a small business owner writes a very cool blog where he pulls together figures to demonstrate the folly of today's current economic policies. Read it by clicking here.
THE MILLIONAIRE NEXT DOOR This book should be required reading for all high school seniors. It blows apart the media myth of how millionaires really live. Buy it on Amazon here.
THE CREATURE FROM JEKYLL ISLAND Want to know why we have the Federal Reserve? If you don't, you should and everyone should read this book. Buy it here.
More stuff to read as I think of it...
I LOVE COLORADO SO MUCH! I just spent am amazing weekend in an extremely cold Winter Park, Colorado. I am so excited about exploring this entire state, but for our first venture out, this was perfect. I love to give kudos to people who do a great job, and honestly, everyone we met gave great customer service. Well except, ironically enough, at the Winter Park Welcome Center. It just wasn't very welcoming. I highly recommend (not a paid endorsement) Winter Park Lodging Company. They kicked some serious butt with our house rental and were GREAT to work with. We ate REALLY well at the Strip and Tail (not a paid endorsement) and got great service from every young person who had ventured into the Resort for a winter of adventure. I love seeing young people following their dreams when they are still young and have few real responsibilities. It warms my heart. We will be going back to Winter Park soon!
NOW ON TO THE GAY CAKE I simply can NOT believe this story. I can't believe that sexual orientation now outweighs religious beliefs according to a judge. I can't believe that in this day and age, we must run to the government to get our way. I can't believe there isn't a premier gay baker in Denver that the gay community couldn't have consciously catapulted to the top of the wedding cake business by word and mouth alone. And I'm in favor of gay marriage. But this offends me and may create a huge backlash. We shall discuss this today at 7am.
EVER WONDERED WHAT NAKED ADVOCACY BY A NEWSPAPER LOOKS LIKE? Then read this article in the Denver Post. The SOLE purpose of this article is to begin the march to single payer by complaining about how NOT poor people are being adversely affected by the kind of high deductible plans being sold on Obamacare. Because the whole "we need to help the poor" angle of Obamacare is proving to be an epic fail as the people who thought all this stuff was gonna only stick it to the RICH are finding out otherwise. So now we have to make sure we all know how GROSSLY unfair it is to expect people to actually be held responsible for the choices they make. I am sorry these people suffered a loss and an injury that lead them to the ER, but they are complaining about the insurance plans THEY chose to enroll in. They have not taken advantage of a Health Savings Account to cover their deductible and they want the insurance companies to NOT negotiate prices down until AFTER they meet their deductibles at which time they will surely take the lower rate. GET A GRIP, PEOPLE. More on this later. But grrrrrr. Just grrrrrrr.
POLLS ARE LIKE ELBOWS Erebody has 'em. But this one is from a polling outfit that leans well left and the news is not good for Democrats at the state level. Check it here.
GREAT FOLLOW UP TO THE AIR FORCE ACADEMY STORY And this makes me madder and madder. These young people work so hard and do so much to get accepted to a service academy. They deserve better. If not honesty, than how about dropping the character assassination of those screwed over?
THE BEST PART OF THIS ARTICLE About a guy who retired before he could afford to but is now stoked that the rest of us will pay for his healthcare costs is in the comments, which I cut and pasted here:
THE SICKNESS IS UPON ME So be kind today and know that those long pauses you hear are for when I turn the microphone off to cough for a bit.
IN GOD WE TRUST...BUT YOU NOT SO MUCH A new poll shows Americans simply don't trust each other very much. Why is this? There is much speculation but I have two culprits in mind and I'll share them with you later.
HATS OFF TO THE DENVER CITY COUNCIL For putting private property rights and common sense before a bill to stop people from smoking pot in their own front yards. It would have been an unenforceable bit on nonsense. Well done. But leave it to Debbie "I'm everybody's momma" Ortega to vow to continue this sort of nonsense in the name of the CHILDREN.
YESTERDAY I ACCIDENTALLY WATCHED 3 MINUTES OF MAURY POVICH'S SHOW And I am pretty sure that show is a sign of the apocalypse. Not only because of the pathetic souls who sign up willingly to be humiliated on national tv, but the people who feed on the human carnage created by those trainwrecks. At least when I watch the Real Housewives those people have comfortable lives.
THIS IS NOT SURPRISING TO ME AT ALL Men are from Mars, women are from venus. We've all heard it, and most people think it's true. But this study clearly proves that there are differences in the way men and women's brains are wired. Which makes perfect sense to me, but from an evolutionary sense confuses me. It's like God built us to argue.
BLACK FRIDAY SALES WERE DOWN As people just decided to say yes to Thanksgiving shopping. Did you go out this year, and if not, was it a conscious decision or just because you never go out? I'm firmly in the second category.
WELL SOMEONE LIKES OBAMACARE Maybe they can do a whole series of ads featuring the hookers at the Bunny Ranch?
BUT WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO POINT OUT LIBERAL EXPLOITATION Coming hot of the heels of my conversation about snobbery in who is targeted by libs is this article about liberal media (although truth be told, all media does this) exploiting the free labor of interns. What's funny to me about this story is the assertion by this upstanding liberal that those who's parents can't pay their bills while they intern are shut out of the system. Newsflash: I interned 30 hours a week, for free, while working 40 hours a week to pay my bills. It can be done. Some of us don't need to rely on Mommy and Daddy to get ahead, we do what needs to be done.
