BY THE NUMBERS BLOG My nerdy friend David who is degreed in economics as well as a small business owner writes a very cool blog where he pulls together figures to demonstrate the folly of today's current economic policies. Read it by clicking here.
THE MILLIONAIRE NEXT DOOR This book should be required reading for all high school seniors. It blows apart the media myth of how millionaires really live. Buy it on Amazon here.

More stuff to read as I think of it...
HAPPY HALLOWEEN, BUT YOUR KIDS ARE FAT A busybody know it all lady in North Dakota has decided to pass judgment on kids that she deems too fat by sending a fat shaming letter home in their trick or treat bags. This woman is begging for an egging. And although I never condone such things, I wouldn't be sad if it happened. I've written her back and will share that today. View Document
IT BEING HALLOWEEN AND ALL I was thinking about the scariest Halloween I've ever had. I was a kid and a grown up did something mean in the name of Jesus. Maybe this is why I hate being startled. Let's share scary stories today, shall we?
1,380,000 PAGES OF SLUTTY HALLOWEEN COSTUMES A quick search on Google for "slutty halloween costumes" return 1,380,000 pages. I didn't go through all of them, but it's remarkable how many seemingly mundane things can be made "slutty" for Halloween. Sexy Pinocchio did seem a tad bit much though. Rather than lament how slutty things have gotten, I'm going to try to come up with truly original slutty costumes.
IT'S A CULTURE, NOT A COSTUME! CU-Boulder isn't the only politically correct campus when it comes to Halloween. A couple of years ago, Ohio University, where one of the biggest Halloween celebrations takes place every year, started a campaign to let students know how upsetting their costumes are to others. And many people have made fun of it. Check this out.
THE GOVERNMENT EVEN MESSES WITH CANDY! Someday I'll bore you with my loathing of the sugar tariffs of 1789 (our first tax in the colonies) but this story gives you an idea of how sugar tariffs and crony capitalism aren't so sweet for the workforce outside of the sugar industry.
OH, SNAP CORY GARDNER Congressman Cory Gardner took the wood (metaphorically, of course) to Kathleen Sebelius yesterday during her testimony. I especially like the part where he explained the Brosurance ad to her. Click here to watch it, it's awesome. And if the Denver Post is right about it being illegal to opt out of coverage and shop on the exchange, does this mean Cory Gardner is breaking the law by insuring his family in the individual marketplace?
I HAVE TO LIVE WHERE? One of the union backed candidates for the Adams 12 school board has been declared ineligible because she doesn't live in the district she's running to represent. Of course the union is consulting lawyers as they've dropped about 40 thousand bucks into the race and aren't happy they won't get to cherry pick a board who will give them what they want. Too bad.
IF YOU CAN MAKE IT THERE, YOU MUST NEED A BABYSITTER New York City used to be tough. Now, it's big government telling people at every turn what and how they can do things. Now you must be 21 in New York City to buy cigarettes. I sure hope they raise the age to vote too.
WHAT? SOMEONE SPENT FREE TAXPAYER MONEY IRRESPONSIBLY? This falls into the nice deal if you can get it category. Taxpayers spent 100 million bucks with a quasi governmental agency to bring broadband to rural areas of Colorado. And guess what, they blew the money. The assets of that failed operation just sold for about 8 million bucks. Why did this happen? What difference, at this point, does it make?
1.4 MILLION TO CREATE ONE JOB Once again a great example of what happens when government gets a cockamamie idea to stimulate the economy is a failure. Cash for Clunkers, which did nothing except create a shortage of cheap used cars is a proven failure. Who proved it? The Brookings Institute, not exactly a bastion of right wing thought. The program didn't stimulate the economy and created a few jobs at a cost of 1.4 million bucks a piece. The Obama Administration predicted 70,000 jobs in one year when in reality, 3,676 jobs were created. Way to go, Presidentish Obama!
