BY THE NUMBERS BLOG My nerdy friend David who is degreed in economics as well as a small business owner writes a very cool blog where he pulls together figures to demonstrate the folly of today's current economic policies. Read it by clicking here.
THE MILLIONAIRE NEXT DOOR This book should be required reading for all high school seniors. It blows apart the media myth of how millionaires really live. Buy it on Amazon here.
THE CREATURE FROM JEKYLL ISLAND Want to know why we have the Federal Reserve? If you don't, you should and everyone should read this book. Buy it here.
More stuff to read as I think of it...
WELD COUNTY IS BREAKING NEW GROUND...AGAIN A rural school district has decided to let teachers carry concealed. At 7am I'll talk to Superintendent Rick Mondt about the thinking behind this decision and what parents can expect.
DENVER CITY COUNCIL IS OUT OF YOUR BACKYARD After proposing ridiculous and likely unconstitutional rules barring the use of marijuana in your own backyard, the Denver City Council wised up and backed off. It is still, however, going to be illegal to "display" it in certain areas of the city and on your own front porch. When are they going to ban alcohol on your front porch? Just asking.
IS THIS OUTRAGEOUS? A JeffCo teacher assigned his 15 year old biology students a lesson that has some parents very unhappy. What did he do? He asked them to study the stages of beer production to learn about fermentation, with an extra credit if students toured the Coors Factory. One mother is concerned because her family has a history of alcoholism. Is this nuts, or a good way to engage students with something they might be curious about?
BOULDER: THE SOCIALIST UTOPIA ISN'T ALL IT'S CRACKED UP TO BE This doesn't make me want to go to Boulder, but hey, people like it, right? Except the people who post on the rant and rave section of Craigslist Boulder. They really don't like it.
LET'S TALK ABOUT ILLEGALS, SHALL WE? As the push for immigration reform heats up in DC, with activists targeting the House as the problem (go figure, they are ignoring the seperate immigration bills the House worked on last year) I'm curious as the barometer of my audience on this issue. I smell a lightning poll.
AN EXTRAORDINARY COLUMN ON WHAT'S NEEDED FOR A CULTURE OF LIFE By a young woman speaking at a pro life meeting. It has advice not just on what we need to create a truly pro life environment, but great advice for anyone in life who is married to their routines and order.
THE BYSTANDER PRESIDENT? I love this story, mostly because MSNBC's Mika was forced to do something critical of her beloved PrezBO. I've decided I'm going to refer to Obama as Presidentish Obama. It seems fitting somehow. Watch the video here.
IS THERE REHAB FOR EVERYTHING NOW? Every time a star or athlete gets in deep doodoo they run to rehab. The latest is Chris Brown, famous for beating up Rihanna and now getting into a fight that got him arrested again. What is he in rehab for? Anger management. Is rehab becoming some kind of shortcut to avoid jail time or can you really go to rehab for anger? This seems like a racket.
NOW SWADDLING IS BAD AGAIN I admit it, I swaddled. If you're not a parent, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but if you've had an infant recently you do. Why? Because swaddling is the best way to get a cranky, crying baby to stop being cranky and crying. So of course, it's bad. Why? It can interfere with hip development according to docs in Britain. I guess it could if you left your baby swaddled all the time. Use your brains, people, use your brains.
