BY THE NUMBERS BLOG My nerdy friend David who is degreed in economics as well as a small business owner writes a very cool blog where he pulls together figures to demonstrate the folly of today's current economic policies. Read it by clicking here.
THE MILLIONAIRE NEXT DOOR This book should be required reading for all high school seniors. It blows apart the media myth of how millionaires really live. Buy it on Amazon here.
THE CREATURE FROM JEKYLL ISLAND Want to know why we have the Federal Reserve? If you don't, you should and everyone should read this book. Buy it here.
More stuff to read as I think of it...
CRASS YES, BUT ACCURATE Mayor of the Nation (self-appointed) Michael Bloomberg dropped a chunk of change into this recall election because he knows (from the safe confines of NYC) how Coloradoans should live. Bloomberg even issued a rather pissy statement you can find here. Luckily, Coloradoans disagreed. Today I will check in with all sorts of folks who've worked their collective tails off for this recall. A victory lap of sorts. And I couldn't be happier.
SO IS IT THE SHOT HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD? What impact will this election have on gun control efforts nationwide? Gun control nuts have lost a lot lately. And now the message has been sent to politicians thinking of supporting gun control measures that it can cost you dearly. And no matter what John Morse says about it being worth is, I bet when the Senate gavels into session this year and he's on the outside looking in, he may change his mind. Unless, of course, he's OFFICIALLY on the Bloomberg payroll by then.
OUR OWN ROSS KAMINSKY WEIGHS IN ON THE RECALL Check the column out here!
IT IS THE ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11 And I've not seen or heard much, really. As traumatic as 9/11 was, and as long lasting the impact, are we ready to move on and not let the day suck the life out of us? Or is it too soon to stop the memorial services for those who have fallen? I think I'm somewhere in between. I'll explain today.
PRESIDENT OBAMA'S SPEECH WAS...WELL, IT WAS. The President's speech was nonsensical last night. The first part of the speech a case for immediate action against the atrocities of Assad, in which he laid out a case with no supporting documentation. But then he said, but hey, Russia's gonna step in for diplomacy. So we've gone, in one speech, from the need to PUNISH the actions of Assad, to diplomacy to prevent him from THIS kind of atrocity in the future. I find it nauseating when a man who voted against babies who survive abortions getting medical care uses "the children" as his excuse for anything. By the way, I wasn't the only one unimpressed. Other than lapdog Andrew Sullivan, the pundits were left cold. No tingles on this one for Chris Matthews.
AND OVER IN RUSSIA If there were any doubt that Russia doesn't give a crap about the needs and wants of the US, this should put that to rest. Russia is giving missile defense systems to Iran. Remember, Obama caved on providing missile defense systems to our Eastern European allies as a concession to the Russians. And now they turn around and give one of our international thorns missile defense. Yeah, they are really doing the bidding of Obama on Syria. Sure they are. Because they care.
SOMEONE ELSE CAN PLAY "WHAT IF GW BUSH WERE PRESIDENT?" You know I love this game. Bret Stephens does a quick compare and contrast for the libs out there with short memories. You know the Bush lied, people died types who protested outside the Korbels dinner Monday? Them. Here you go, nimrods, check out who the rogue president is now.
RELIGION OF PEACE STRIKES AGAIN Just in case you missed this story, a Pakistani Muslim cleric cut his wife into pieces. He says he didn't want to be responsible for her sin. What sin? She refused to wear a veil and sent her children to a secular school. For that, she had to die.
I HAVE A SOLUTION...TAKE POT OFF THE DRUG SCHEDULE We are beginning to see the fresh hell that will be created as the Federal government tries to figure out ways to get around it's own laws as more states legalize pot. The easiest way to solve all these issues is to take pot off the drug schedule federally. But that wouldn't be as much fun as endless hearings on bank policy and whatnot.
WILL THE RECALL CHANGE THE BAG TAX VOTE? First of all, the proposed bag fee is a tax, not a fee. Second, will the behavior modifiers with taxing authority take note of what happens when you ignore constituents? We shall see. At least the Mayor knows what's up with this and has promised to veto it.
UM, THAT CAT IS OUT OF THE BAG City officials are worried that Monday's big pot giveaway and the subsequent coverage of people lighting up on Civic Center Park will give the city a bad reputation elsewhere. Trust me, the pot things is already well known outside the city. Instead of being embarrassed, embrace it!
UNLESS YOU GOT THOSE PROMISES IN WRITING... JeffCo Deputies have filed suit for something. From the news coverage, I think it's over broken promises about raises and promised overtime. Did they get those promises in writing? If not, I don't think they have much of a case.
